2017 was an amazing year. I probably say that each year, but this year was very special for my husband and I. We bought and moved into our first house and brought home a sweet, rescued puppy that we both adore. I also began this blog back in August and it was a dream of mine to start then, and it is a dream come true to see where this blog has taken me and how much it has grown. It’s truly hard to believe that this calendar year is already over! Although we may never know what the future holds, I know that God will pave the way for what is meant to be. So far, He has given us so many blessings that I am so grateful for.
Now that 2017 has officially come to an end, let’s talk about New Year’s resolutions. I make a list of mine each year and by February, they are all but a distant memory. It seems that no matter what I choose to make as a resolution, it never lasts. This year, I’m going to keep it short and simple and with this list, I think I should be able to actually hold myself to these standards!
- Workout More
- Eat Healthier
- Relax more
…Just kidding. These are NOT my resolutions. They are similar to ones I have made in the past, however. Working out and eating completely healthy only have worked for me for a short amount of time in the past. My actual resolutions this year are much more important to me and because of that, I think I will be able to actually stick to them (or so I think).
Now for the real resolutions…
- Unplug – Because I am a blogger, a lot of time is spent on my phone connecting with other people. Not to mention, I just enjoy seeing what other people are up to! Unfortunately, sometimes I think that my phone and technology in general get in the way of time with my husband when it is just us two at home. I know that sounds bad, but it happens! One minute we are talking and watching TV and the next minute we are both consumed in our phones, neither of us actually interacting with one another. I know that this is a general problem with society, but I want to make a more conscious effort to not be on my phone when I am with someone else. The people we care about and love will always be more important than anything else – that needs to be a top priority!
- Me Time – Between being a full-time high school teacher, going to grad school, and being a blogger, I can get really stressed out really fast. It seems that there is never enough time in the day to get things done and I need to take a step back from things every once in a while and decompress. Even this past week, I took an entire week off from blogging and engaging on social media. That time away really helped me to de-stress. Although we can’t always completely step away from our work, I know that some activities will really help to get rid of stress. In 2018, I want to make a point to relax when I need it most – even if I don’t have the time for an actual break, I need to make my own break and step back from whatever is making me stressed.
- Let It Go – No, I’m not talking about Frozen, but sometimes you just need to let things go. Clutter, the past, and even negativity aren’t things that I need in my life and instead of hanging onto these things, I just need to let it all go. It is so easy to get caught up in negativity when you are busy, and as a blogger, I find that I am constantly comparing myself to others in my niche. This I know is unfair, but instead of hanging onto those feelings of self doubt, I need to focus on the positive and move on. I think that no matter where we are in life, it is easy to compare ourselves and our work to others’ and it is not something that induces positive feelings. Switching our mindsets to focus on the good and positive things will help to keep us moving forward.
I hope that 2018 brings a year full of happiness, joy, and all things lovely for you and your families! Goodbye, 2017!
